Monday, February 15th, 2010

Rally Sweden was amazing – I’ll post my reflections and photos later, probably tomorrow (Tuesday). Until then, watch some of the excellent videos posted from the event:

Stobart likely to get a flying start of the season

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Henning Solberg and Marcus Grönholm are Stobart’s nominated points scorers for Rally Sweden… No wonder, since both are snow experts and both probably even deserve to be called Sweden expert. Marcus has won the rally five times and Henning has had numerous top scorings during the years. Without any technical problems on their Ford Focus WRCs I think both will be able to score top six placings and at least one of them probably better – maybe including podiums…

Rally Sweden publishes entry list

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Rally Sweden publishes their seeded entry list draft on their website. Among the surprises are Frederic Sauvan in a Ford Focus WRC07 and Juho Hänninen in a Skoda Fabia Super2000, the later of the two set to improve the battle in the S2000 class even further.

Ken Block’s WRC calendar 2010

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Ken Block revealed a little bit more than a week ago that he would drive parts of the World Rally Championship 2010 in a campaign spanning over at least 3 years with the ambition to do full seasons in 2011-2012. However, little has been known about Block’s calendar more than that he would skip Sweden and go straight on to start his season in Rally Mexico. Now, it seems like Block’s calendar is more finalised – and it will include the following rounds: Rally Mexico, Rally of Turkey, Rally of Portugal, Rally of France, Rally Germany, Rally Catalunya (Spain) and Wales Rally GB. Besides that, it seems like one European event may be added later on.

At the same time, more info has came about Chris Atkinson – who was rumoured to be included in a 2 car Monster World Rally Team before the announcement came. Paul Turner, manager of Atkinson, confirms that discussions with the Monster team have been held for a long time, but he also says that it’s unlikely for Atko to show up as a driver in the team before 2011. However, he and Atkinson seems to be working hard to get Atko in the ultimate position for next year by placing Atkinson as an advisor and gravel notes crewmember this year. If that is just their hopes or a completed deal is not known though.

Video: Ken Block’s Gymkhana TWO

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Since many people seem to have missed the fame of Ken Block and his Gymkhana stunt videos, I decided to post the Gymkhana II here. It’s not really rallying – and of course he has done a lot of tries, but at least it’s a rally car and it’s still quite impressive. Also, it’s a sign of how to do successful marketing with rallying – this video was ranked number four in the Viral Video Chart 2009 by well-known Advertising Age. Here we go:

Confirmed: Ken Block competes in WRC 2010

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

It’s been rumoured a long time, but finally it’s confirmed. Ken Block will compete the 2010 World Rally Championship with Monster World Rally Team backed by M-Sport. Besides that Ken, who is a big star over in the US, will race the Rally America series with the new Ford Fiesta S2000 as well as compete in the X-Games for his fifth consecutive year.

The charge by Block, who is the first American ever to do a larger assault for the championship, seems to be on a long term, since he says that he’ll not promise any podiums the first year:

- Racing in the WRC has always been a dream of mine, but, I’m not going to promise podiums in my first year. I’ll be going up against the best drivers in the world. My main objective for 2010 is to develop into a competitive driver for 2011, and beyond, says Block.

Sad enough, Block – who is co-founder of DC Shoes and a former snowboarding, skateboarding and motocross star – is set to skip Rally Sweden and start of his WRC challenge with Rally Mexico in March. No matter what, the WRC will really be boosted this year with two superstars in Raikkonen and Block joining the championship.

I’ll get back later on with more info and some reflections on Ken Block and his chances in the championship.

Villagra with Munchis for 2010 WRC and doing IRC Rally Argentina in Fiesta Super2000

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Argentinean driver Federico Villagra will do 7 rounds of the 2010 WRC season and also one outing in the IRC event Rally Argentina. The WRC rounds are Mexico, Jordan, New Zealand, Portugal, Catalunya, Japan and France, which he will do in a Ford Focus WRC from the Munchis team. The Rally Argentina entry is in the Ford Fiesta Super2000 – a drive he says he’s invited to for free. According to himself, Villagra is trying to extend the invitation to cover even the Brazilian Curitiba IRC-event. Last but not least, Villagra has confirmed that he start off the WRC season by doing tests in England in February.

Carlsson is back!

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Spent the night yesterday writing the lovely press release about Daniel Carlsson coming back to rallying. I wont tell you the whole story now, but there is so much regarding his mistake and the behaviour by different actors after it that haven’t been discussed in media and that are not really nice stories (at least to those ones involved) if they come out into the light.

One day I’ll take the time to write that story to you guys reading this blog. It isn’t really the time yet, I guess, but it’s certainly coming closer. Until then I’m just really happy about the comeback and the strength Daniel is showing. His mistake was unacceptable, he can’t blame anyone – and he let everyone down. But… He let himself down more than anyone else – and he has been knowing that every day since then. Now he’s back – and just the fact that he makes the comeback is just amazing. Hope the rally makes it even better!

The scene of the comeback will be South Swedish Rally (part of the Swedish Championship) on May 15-16 2009. The car, a Ford Focus WRC05, will be engineered by AP Däckservice Engineering Team in cooperation with the guys at Tätab and Dom Buckley Motorsport.

Video: Latvala rolling in Portugal

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

After having mentioned it in the last post I just had to add the video of Latvala crashing in Portugal here. Probably most of you have already seen it, but do it once again. It’s really, really frightening – and the guys should be really lucky to be able to walk away from it…
