Adapta WRT leaving Subaru behind?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

After a disastrous season in 2009, the Norweigan Adapta World Rally Team looks set to leave the Subaru brand behind. Mads Östberg has said that he has never liked the Subaru Impreza WRC S14 – and for Rally Sweden it looks like he’ll be back in the team’s older Impreza S12B. However, after that – Adapta may have done their last rally with Subaru.

The new target for 2010 is likely to be S-WRC and the Super2000 class. The team reckons that they won’t be able to get a Ford or Citroen car, and I guess they consider S2000 a good warm-up for the 2011 WRC1.6T regulations. The team hopes to have a Super2000 alternative ready for Rally Jordan in the beginning of April.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we got another Fiesta in the S-WRC from Rally Jordan on…

Crazy Mads Östberg – co-driven by his girlfriend?!

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Mads Östberg will be co-driven by his girlfriend, Norweigan co-driver Veronica Engan, in Sardinia. The decision comes after Östbergs split with co-driver Ole Kristian Unnerud that is said to be caused by Unneruds family situation. However, it’s quite obvious that a the truth much more lies in the co-driver mistake Unnerud made in the recent “Sörlandsrallyt”. No matter the factors, it seems like a crazy idea to be co-driven by your own girlfriend – even though it’s not the first time (Mattias Ekström+Tina Thörner is among the ones who have done it). Luckily, Östberg have understood that himself and says that it’s only a temporary solution…

Anyway, it will be fun to see what they can achieve. From what I’ve heard, Engan is a good co-driver.

Adapta fears sabotage – I fear imagination

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

A few days ago I posted a video about Henning being furious on his mechanics, because of a mistake. For a short while, it seems like Henning thought that the fault was caused by sabotage, but he has now changed his mind after talking to the parc fermé guards in person. However, the Adapta team scored a very faded result on the event and they immediately woke up when talking about sabotage. Team manager Mårten Östberg tells Norweigan media that they monitored the car all time except for the nightly parc fermé. Despite the fact that the parc fermé is guarded by guards appointed by the FIA, Östberg thinks that the car was sabotaged there:

- We have no suspect, but as we see it there is no doubt that the car has been sabotaged, he says to moss-avis.no.

I have of course no clue if Östberg’s car has been sabotaged – but it sounds quite strange. I think the team should be very, very careful before doing so serious accusations. Even though Mads Östberg says to moss-avis.no that the sabotage itself didn’t cause their bad results – it mostly sounds like losers talk now…

Anders Grøndal joins the Adapta World Rally Team for Norway

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Norweigan youngster Anders Grøndal will join Mads Östberg in the Adapta World Rally Team for Rally Norway – confirmed today during a press conference in Norway. The team will be running two Subaru Impreza S14 directly backed by Prodrive in Norway and their driver Mads Östberg is confirmed to be running seven more events this year. Grøndal is currently only confirmed for Norway, but he says that more events may be coming.

Grøndal has previously driven earlier versions of the Subaru Impreza WRC in his own team. He is joined by Swedish co-driver Maria Andersson.

What will happen tomorrow?

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Now Petter has announced his plan. Not very much details, but at least a plan – and it’s not that very big, super, WRC team from Norway that it was speculated to be. That leaves the question… What will happen on the Bjerke racetrack in Norway on Tuesday? Rally Norway invites to a press conference where a new Norweigan WRC team capable to fight with the best works teams will be presented. Petter has told Swedish newspaper VF that he wont be there - he will stay in France until Wednesday (testing the Le Mans car).

Maybe, and also probably I’m afraid, it will be regarding the Adapta World Rally Team. Adapta announced already last year that they would do a large assault this season with Mads Östberg in a Subaru. Maybe it’s some kind of up-hotted release regarding that? Perhaps they’ve managed to get an even better deal following the Subaru retirement, a second Norweigan driver besides Mads Östberg and even better Prodrive support? Not big news, I guess – but eyy… Let’s hope for something better until tomorrow! :)
